Where will Pet Pawdicure trim my pet’s nails?

For at our Finn Hill location, or at pet stores, we trim your pet’s nails inside. You are present at all times during your pet’s nail trim. For mobile nail trims, please have an open, well-lit area for us to trim your pet’s nails. We bring a grooming table for small pets and work on the floor for large pets. We are also happy to work outside on decks or patios, temperature and weather-permitting. We do not work outside under 65 degrees. You are present at all times during your pet’s nail trim.

How long will my appointment last?

Appointments generally last from 10-15 minutes per pet, depending on each individual situation and service. The average mobile or Finn Hill location appointment is about 10 minutes for your planning purposes. Appointments at pet stores are always 15 minutes or less.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash or credit cards.

My pet’s nails are really, really long!

When your pet’s nails are quite long, we do our best to get them as short and trim as is possible, and then offer a 2-week retrim to you as we feel so strongly about helping you and your pet get their nails to a healthy length. It is important to retrim again soon to keep the quick receding, otherwise we will have lost any ground we have gained through the first nail trim. We will retrim in 2 weeks, and then decide at that time if a second or more 2-week retrim is needed. Sometimes we move to nail trims 3 weeks apart, or are able to move back to a regular monthly nail trim schedule. Each pet is different in both genetics, exercise activity, food they eat, and age, so it will depend on your pet’s individual needs.

I’m a little nervous and unsure of how my pet may react

It’s okay! We have lots of experience with nervous and anxious pets and/or owners. It’s understandable as nail trims only happen about 12 times a year when done on a regular schedule. It is a little hard to get used to something that you are only exposed to 12 times a year! We are happy to work with you and your pet to keep everyone as comfortable as possible. For animals that may bite, we prefer to first try the nail trim without a muzzle if you think that is possible. Some dogs are more of a snarler than a biter and want to show their teeth but will not actually act on biting. If you know your pet is a biter, then we will not try that option and will use a muzzle. Please provide your pet’s muzzle or purchase a muzzle prior to your appointment.

Our end goal with nail trims is to gently expose your pet to getting regular nail trims and slowly relieve any fear and distrust about nail trims. We want it to be a pleasant, almost boring experience for your pet (the nail trim part!) so that they think they are just there for the treats and associate nail trims with positive feelings. Most importantly, try to remain calm and peaceful yourself as your pet can sense your feelings and will respond accordingly. If we maintain a positive and secure environment it does wonders for everyone involved and helps your pet feel more safe. Our goal is to build trust or rebuild the trust about nail trims as they are a basic pet healthcare necessity and we want to help eliminate your pet’s fear. Send all the warm, loving thoughts you can to your pet and we will do our best to get their nails short and trim in a relaxed manner.

My pet has injuries or health issues

Please let us know if your pet has any hip, leg, back or foot injuries, or anything else we should know for both your and your pet’s safety and comfort during the nail trim as well as ours, thanks!

Are treats provided?

Yes, treats are provided! That being said, we all have our favorite treats or snacks and your pet’s favorites always help in both rewarding your pet and if needed, as a distraction. If your pet has food allergies, please be sure to let us know and have their favorite treats handy. If we have a treat they are able to have, we can supply treats. Looking forward to meeting you all soon!
